Safarejos, resonàncies fluvials situades (2023)

This event begins with a guided tour of the open studio at IVAM for the artistic residency of the Sono-(soro)ridades collective as part of the ENSEMS festival. IVAM will be the starting point for the augmented reality sound walk. The walk will culminate with a live sound performance in the IVAM courtyard, open to the general public.

This project stems from the acoustic ecology of public washhouses as centers of socialization and gathering for women and children, fostering a network of aural relationships where communication, care, and upbringing intersect spatially and physically. Its content is enriched with interviews and in-situ sound recordings of the remnants of public washhouses in Valencia, aiming to recover and amplify listening through oral histories of those who inhabited these spaces and whose memories endure to this day.

The project links 'fer safareig' ('doing the laundry') and water as a resonant medium of the territory from a feminist listening perspective, focusing on the aural connection of these communities through situated narratives. Within the framework of the Ensems festival, the Sono-(soro)ridades collective develops an artistic residency, focusing on aural experiences and incorporating reflections on situated bodies, gender, migration, and decolonization, among other topics. Their participation includes a process-based exhibition documenting their research and artistic creation. The live performance will take place after a sound walk through a real-time performative and acoustic intervention.
