¿Qué nos depara el futuro?/What does the future will bring? (2020)
Collective exhibition to close the 2020 Annual Thematic Program of Border Activism Agency, titled "Mercenaries of the slime". Sound Experimentation and Gender," which proposed a tarot reading as a creative trigger to answer the question: What does the future hold for us?
The artists of HyQ share the inspiration and creative process below:
"This collective exhibition originates from a series of creative experimentation exercises that resulted from the merging of two experiences:
-
HyQ's attendance at a concert in the VR world of Piranha Lab, where, in addition to music, there was a tarot reading for the questions asked by attendees in the virtual environment's chat.
-
A creative exercise proposed by Lab Danza Cuenca, where music and dance converged during the lockdown, and in which HyQ participated.
Each card from the tarot reading was then infused with the sound energy and visual rituals of 12 artists whose creations are directly linked to hybrid practices. This resulted in a reflection on their relationship with both dominant and dissident cultures, also exploring an approach tinged with the magical, witches, and the esoteric. This follows the logic that feminism, magic, rituals, witchcraft, and intuition have formed part of an empowering language that has extended to a diversity of identities.
The tarot is a group of cards used in cartomancy both as a means of consultation and for divination/prediction or seeking answers and meanings in certain symbols or images. It is based on selecting a series of cards, which are then interpreted by a reader who takes into account the order or layout in which they were selected or dealt.
A tarot deck can have various configurations; however, the most common consists of 78 cards divided into major and minor arcana. It is interesting to note that the word 'arcana' refers to mystery or secret, rooted in the Latin word arcanum.
Considering that our pursuit will be linked to collective work, magic, feminism, and the future, for the interpretations:
We will generate a sound/video miniature, based on the reading. By taking magic and feminism, we will create a connection with witchcraft practices and what they involve, such as knowledge derived from connecting the past (understood as our personal histories), the present (our contexts), and the future (dreams); the manipulation of energies, as well as the claiming of spaces (both concrete and abstract), and the transgression of paradigms.
Just as we are constantly traversed by energy, in these exercises the cards will also be infused with the sound/visual energy we decide to create." (Hybrids and Chimeras, 2020)
